Spectacle Frames
DW Roberts offer a wide choice of spectacle frames (including designer models) at each of our family friendly optical practices.
We stock a wide variety of plastic and metal frames, including titanium, in many styles, both contemporary and classical, encompassing full rim, semi rimless and rimless models including the very popular Silhouette range.
Deciding on your Frame Choice
At DW Roberts the aim of our dispensing staff is to ensure that every patient finds the right frame for them that both optimises their vision whilst complimenting their face shape and colouring.
We have an iPad in each of our practices that will help guide you through the styling process by allowing you to compare a range of frames on screen.
Lenses
Whilst offering advice on your choice of frames, we will also discuss with you the lens options that are available to you and are most suitable for your frame choice and prescription. Whether you need spectacles for near, distance, or a combination of the two we have lenses to suit your lifestyle requirements, single vision, bifocals or varifocals. We also offer occupational lenses designed to help with close work tasks over a range of near and intermediate use.
Lens Materials
Plastic lenses
These are the most popular lens choice, lightweight and safer than glass, a scratch resistant coating will also ensure the damage caused by everyday wear is minimised.
Glass lenses
These are available for those people who prefer glass, they are heavier than plastic and more likely to chip or break, but less likely to scratch than plastic.
Coatings
We supply a number of coatings which make your lenses more resistant to scratching, reduce light reflection and provide UV protection. We can also supply tinted lenses for sunglasses or sports and recreational use.
As a Nikon Lenswear supplier we offer a complete range of Nikon lenses but we also supply all leading manufacturer’s lenses including brands such as Zeiss, Essilor and Hoya.
Sunglasses
Ultra violet (UV) light can cause damage to both the skin and the eyes but although most people wear suncream, many forget about wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes.
DW Roberts can provide you with prescription sunglasses if you need them or non-prescription sunglasses if you just want to protect your eyes from the sun. We have a wide range of frames including some designer brands for both adults and children.

VDU Screening
The majority of us are now frequent users of computer screens, whether they are desktop, laptop, tills, tablets or mobile phones.
If you have any of the following symptoms after using your devices, maybe glasses can help:
- Headaches
- Strained or tired eyes
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty in changing focus from distance to near.
If you use computers for work you may be entitled to a sight test paid for by your employer, under the health and safety regulations regarding VDU screens, and if glasses are required for VDU use, the employer should contribute towards them.
Some practical tips for comfortable VDU use:
- Take frequent breaks from looking at your screen. You should look away from your screen every 20 minutes or so to help relax the eyes.
- Adjust the brightness and contrast levels of the screen to levels that are comfortable for you.
- Check the lighting. Try to eliminate as much glare as possible from the area around your screen.
